    Cottonmouths Mating (No pics unfortunately)
    Hi,

So today I went to my new favorite herping spot...a giant reservoir 10 mins away on the bike. It was the third time I visit and I come across my third ever Cottonmouth, Agkistrodon piscivorus leucostoma.

After working with this girl for a little while -- she was the sweetest little snake I've ever worked with in the wild -- she goes on her way. I follow her movements and I see a second snake! :O

He comes across her and I see their tails entwining. I'm not sure if I actually witnessed copulation, but it seemed like it. When the female left, the male went up to my snake hook and follow it; I'm thinking her pheromones were still on it.

Anyway, I'm super happy because those were my third and fourth cottonmouths ever... next time I'm bringing a camera!

    Thanks,

I saw two mating last summer in the swamp and it was broke up by another male.

That's really interesting... I love the natural behavior of herps and witnessing it in the wild :)
