Anyone seen the dragonball movie yet?
I'm a 23 year old who spent many a middle school afternoon plopped in front of toonami for a half hour at a time going oogly googly at their couple of anime shows, most notably for me of course being dragonball/dragonball z.
I have not seen the movie yet but plan on it very soon. I have been doing some online reading of reviews and watching trailers to make sure that the movie is worth seeing, because in the past it has been worthwhile to pass up movies that just didn't make the cut no matter how cool they originally seemed from the title or original conception(Catwoman anyone?? Glad I passed that one up.)
I get all my useful information on whether or not to see a movie from quoting the bad reviews. Here's a few I found enlightening:
"Except for the presence of Hong Kong star Chow Yun-Fat, this shoddy live-action film is no different or bigger than the sort of junk kids plop down to watch on TV after school."
I spent many afternoons when I was 11 plopped down in front of a TV thoroughly enjoying dragonball. AND this one has chow yun fat! So far, movie is looking good.
Another good quote from a negative review:
"Making no effort to be original, exciting, witty or even vaguely plausible, it may pass the time as sparkly fodder for 12-year-old boys with plenty of sugar in their bloodstream."
More milk duds plz. I spend most of my time being a 12 year old at heart

HAHAHHA.
EGG = CLONE? No.
Ki has three types. AIR WATER AND FIRE.
First, where is EARTH and NO ONE ever used elemental ki. It's just KI.
Don't forget.. 8ft tall gorilla. Not a 200ft tall. Oh no.
Master R had black hair.. and no beard.
To conclude the most terrible waste of time I've ever had to see...

Tellin ya, listening to that for an hour was better than that movie.
Re: Anyone seen the dragonball movie yet?
I can tell just from the trailers that they basically took the Dragonball name and churned out some generic ACTSHUN!!!!! sh*te without any respect for the original source material. Just using the associations people have from the cartoon series (which I was a huge fan of back in the day, the comics themselves are way better tho!) to try and make a quick buck with as little effort as possible. I'm not even going to waste my time, if I get curious to see just how horrible it is...well, there are ways, but I am NOT giving anyone money for the privilege of watching them destroy one of my favorite childhood shows.
Re: Anyone seen the dragonball movie yet?
For the non-Dragonball fan, this is a decent action flick. For the DB purest like myself, this movie sucks monkey nuts.
The plot is basically a mix of Gohan's high school story and the original Dragonball Piccolo story. The PR people say that the movie isn't meant to be a direct translation but a retelling. Retellings rarely work. IMO, it has only worked for Battlestar Galactica because the writing and acting were top notch.
This movie is just a cheesy action flick with no depth that basically takes a dump on the DB franchise.
The biggest complaint I have (and many people it seems) is Goku is white. WTF?! It's like having a black guy play Superman or Fat Albert played by a fat asian kid. It just doesn't work. They should have had an Asian actor play Goku. There's no excuse for it. They found Asian actors for everyone else. The rest of the movie would be tolerable I think if they had just gotten that part right.
