    Help with thermostats please
So I am trying to choose a thermostat for my bp terrarium.

It will need to be able to control 2 heat sources (probably 2 UTHs same size)

I have heard alot about herpstats and alot of people who are happy with their herpstats, but is everyones HERPSTAT from spyder robotics? and can you only order them online?

I have heard to stay away from zoo meds thermostat, which i understand

are there any other thermostats that I can use (that are good to go once I buy them) I don't want to have to do serious amounts of wiring

so if anyone could let me know which ones they use, where they got it and the price it would be great

sorry if this sounded demanding, but currently I have nothing controlling the heat (I know, im an idiot for not doing anything about that)

    thanks for any responses

herpstat is made by spyder robotics.i own two herpstats II's and wouldn't own anything else after trying most of the others.i purchased mine from the bean farm.

they are very user friendly,i got mine working perfectly without reading the instructions,a major feat for a low tech guy like me.have fun!

You cant go wrong with herpstats. Mine is great. You can use Helix but I have heard of more failures with them. Could be cause they are more widespread though.

so does spyder robotics provide other stores with their products? or is it strictly online only?

    Hi,

You can also buy on/ off types - the two most people mention are ranco and johnson (sp?).

I don't know if any dedicated bricks and mortar reptile stores would stock thermostats - some do over here but that doesn't help you much.

But Rich at reptile basics website has a very good reputation for quick shipping and good service so maybe callign him would be of use.

If there is a long delay then you could try using a rheostat lamp dimmer - lutron gets mentioned a lot. You should be able to pick one of those up at Lowes and such.

But unless you have super-stable house temps you do need to check on those and adjust them quite often.

I was just wondering if this is a suitable rheo to use with UTH to control the temp?

Also, what about this probe to attatch to the UTH, is it good for a humidity gauge as well? Do I tape the probe to the bottom inside of the hot side of the tank? Thanks

If not, can someone please link me to a good temp prob for uth on amazon? Thanks

I'm so sorry, I dont know how to edit posts or I wouldnt keep adding on lol. But,would the zoomed thermostat be suitable to use with a uth on a plastic tub? I keep my guy in a tank now, with a dimmer, but after reading around here, i want to switch to a tub container. I plan on getting the better thermostats ASAP. Thanks
