Nice incubator

dont know if this is anything super new, but came across it on fauna. thought it was really neat and i think i might pick one up :D.

wow and its cheap. Are there any reviews on fauna from people discussing how well it holds its temps, and anything on what size and how many egg boxes fit in there. I could do the math with the given dimensions but ehh.

Given the cost of the total unit I'm guessing the thermostat they use isn't the greatest, if I was to buy something similar to that I would find a way to hook up a reputable thermostat to it. Last thing you want to do is screw up your egg incubation because you thought you were getting a good deal.

That thing is TINY! And it won't heat up so you would still need a good thermostat and a heat source. After that, it would be good for about 2 clutches. I don't even think a 6qt box would be able to fit in there.

Actually, it does heat up, up to 140 degrees according to the link. But I agree with others, that I wouldn't trust that thermostat with my clutches.

I didn't see that. I just saw that the dimensions were too small to fit a 6 qt box so I stopped reading. There must be a switch built into it to reverse the polarity of the thermo-electric chip, but I still would also not trust the thermostat that's in it. With my wine cooler I had to cut the wires from the transformer and reverse them manually.

The thing is, the chips use regulated 12v, so you would either have to trust the thermostat that's in there or use an on/off thermostat. You can't use a proportional thermostat, and any fan that's inside it would stop running every time the heat switched off. So it's basically an expensive 20qt cooler that would need to be modded the same as a $15 plastic cooler in order for it to safely hatch 1-2 clutches of eggs.

ill see if i can find the thread again, but from what i read people were saying it held heat verry well. but it is pretty small though. would be great for smaller animals

Yeah, probably not worth it. BUT, I would be curious to see those that have purchased it how it holds up regulating temperature. Who knows, maybe it may actually do an OK job (doubt it), but you never know. I could see it being good for animals that lay smaller sized eggs/clutches and you were only producing a couple. Maybe cornsnake eggs, or lizard eggs.

But agree with you that for not much more, you can make a giant cooler incubator with a Herpstat, that will be bullet proof and hold 6 clutches easily.
