Electrician help needed

I have an apartment that gets extremely hot in the summer and noticed this outlet right underneath my living room window.

The landlord said its a dedicated line for an air condition window unit.

I would like to put a 10,000 BTU unit in the window but one little problem.

What kind of outlet is this and do they even make AC's that fit it?

Please help.

Looks like a 20 amp outlet. You can find window units at Lowe's or Home depot that will work fine.

Yep... It's a 120 volt 20 amp recepticle.

So Lowe's has AC units that would fit this?

I went and looked but it looked like the plug wouldn't fit ni this.

I could be wrong though.

It could be a 220v outlet. The A/C units that are going to be for this are going to be 18,000 btu and above.

i could be 120v 20 amp or 220v. you bet bet is to check it with a meter, because it can really be anything depending on if the guy that wired it knew what he was doing.

There would be no reason to have a non standard outlet for a 20 amp circuit. It would only make sense to have a different one for 220v. Various style plugs are available at places like Home Depot or Lowe's. The "experts" in the Electrical section of either of those places wuld be glad to discuss it with you at length.

some electronics come with a different plug style like this so no one can try to use it on a 15amp circuit and overheat the wires or the outlet , which could cause a fire.
