Calico

What's the lowest price you can get a lowest white Calico for? And what costs more male or female? Im thinking of getting one for $700 with very low white but it is a Calico. lol What do you think? Is that a good deal for a Calico and should I get it? She's a she's.

That's pretty low, most of the ones I see on kingsnake are for several 1000... but then again you get what you pay for I guess. It all depends on what matters to you, i.e are you going to be breeding her because if so she will more than likely produce more low whites and they will not be worth as much, or do you just want a calico morph because they are pretty and it doesn't matter to you if they are high grade white or not, etc. If you're going to try to breed her then yea you might want to save money for a male and just get 2 low whites. Or you might want to put out a lot more money to get "better looking" whiter snakes, it's all in what your intentions are. I personally think all calicos are cool because they are relatively new, but then again I can't afford one right now lol much less a high white. Female morphs are generally more expensive than males so I would make an educated guess that it is the same case with calicos, besides the fact they are more scarce on the market compared with pastels, spiders, etc so they are higher priced to begin with. I guess bottom line just make sure it's a reputable breeder and a healthy snake :)

I've seen low white ones for as low as $400 and from what I've heard the amount of white the parent has does not determine the amount of white the offspring will have. so a low white can still produce high white. you'll get a veriety in the same clutch.
I was thinking about getting one myself to breed to one of my pastels...pastel calico's look amazing!!! but I don't think that callico's are nice enough on their own to pay a really high price but they do have great combo potential!
I think I'm just work on different projects till the prices drop a little;)

If you only take one piece of advice from this thread the above should be it.

Check out the seller on the BOI and our inquiery section and don't be afraid to post threads asking peoples opinion on them if you cannot immediately find any threads about them.

If the snake is waaay less than everyone else is selling them for - be suspicious as all heck and ask yourself, and the seller, why.

If the words cameroon, western union or cites (for what should be an American internal shipment ) are mentioned walk away with a song in your heart.

Now don't calico's share the randomness of the amount of white with pieds?

I mean can't low white calicos throw high white offspring? I may be totally wrong about that though. But if it's true there shouldn't be that big a difference in price bettween low and high whites I think.

And females will be more expensive than males.

i agree with 250rider. based on the research and questions i have asked low whites can produce high whites. it is totally random. i have recently seen calicos for sale for 800 to 2500. the higher the contrast and higher the white, the more $$. i have been looking to purchace one myself.

I have a calico and they are usually priced by the amount of white like a pied. Also like a pied the white is totally random on the offspring and low whites can make high whites and visa versa.

Always be skeptical with way low prices, be thorough with your research. Ther are two main lines here in the U.S., the flora and fauna line and the snake keepers line. See if your seller mentions one of these when you ask what line.

Calicos usually are ringers and have a very light golden band around the pattern. This pic is of The Snake Keeper line.
