    Deserts
    Hi:

Does anyone know where the "Deserts" originated? I mean are they base morphs brought in from Africa, or did they pop up in someones collection?

AFAIK they are base morphs brought over from Africa.

I really want one, but unfortunately they are pricey... and hard to come by. :(

The desert comes in two forms; the desert ghost which is recessive and the "plain" desert which is co-dom. I don't know who brought the first ones over from Africa, but I believe Stan Chiris (sp?) started working with the co-dom form several years ago. Pro Exotics bought Stan's stock when he left the business I believe. Robyn with Pro Exotics is really taking this co-dom desert morph to a new level with all the combos produced. I also know that Mark and Kim Bell have been working with the recessive desert ghost form for quite awhile.

I really want a tiger (desert enchi) male, but I've got to wait a bit due to the current prices.

    Yeah thanks:

they are nice and I just wondered if they were super forms of what some exporters call special colors, which are sort of like vanillas.

    Thanks again

Stan Chiras and Peter Kahl both have separate lines of co-dom deserts balls. Stan explained to me that his original desert sire was an CH african baby import that was passed over by cherry pickers looking for other morphs such as yellowbellies. Hopefully a super desert can be proved out this year. In the meantime, they make beautiful crosses.

Its amazing how much the desert cleans everything up! Very cool snakes but just too much... Hopefully they will drop in price in the next few years and I can get my hands on one.
