Infrared Heater?

Hi all. first post for me. I just added a beautiful Pastel Male to my growing collection :banana:. Told the wife it was to help control the colony that I have established, :D He-He. So in trying to set the ideal gradient, I have purchased a 5.5" lamp and an infrared ceramic emitter. When I plugged in the heater, I did not feel much heat from it though. Is this normal or does it just need time to "warm up" ?

:welcome: I don't use lamps, they zap the humidity, give us pics & details of your set up that would help

I would think that is would take some time for it to fully heat up.

O.K., finally got time to snap a few pics (with my sucky 2mp camera-phone) and upload them. The cage is a MartyMade 36"x18"x13" with sliding front doors and removable top halves.

This is the rough set-up, it will get better as funding allows. I really want to get a Herpstat to control everything. I have two LCD and one digital temp gauge(s) and a digital humidity gauge (more to come though). Two hides a water bowl a tree branch and a Exo-Terra heating matt. The light fixtures are rheostat controlled Exo-Terra pro 8" and the IR is in a Flukers 5.5".

Went to Walmart and made this humidifier/fresh-air pump for less than $10 :D

I ran a perforated tube along the back of Simons penthouse to distribute the air throughout the tank. It is easy to adjust how much or how little humidity this way, plus it will keep the air fresh which I really like (for Simon's sake).

If there's one thing I could change it would be the large hide(s). But yeah, it's subjective.

Yeah, the one on the hot side is really big, but it was only $14 at the Repticon event, so I got it. I do need to get another one that is like the one on the cool side. But Simon will have to make do until I get the electronics sorted out and a perfect ecosphere established first. He seems to prefer the big one oddly enough :confuzd: and is not real shy anyways.

yea the ceramic heat bulbs take a little while to heat up. nice humidifier, wow i have all that aquarium equipment, i will definately have to make one :) thanks for posting that. because i always have trouble keeping humidity in my screen top tanks

I want to know how you made the humidifier thing. I mean man, I bought some automated mister thing from Big apple, and when it kicks on, it leaks even with the zipties, and I would love to figure out how you made yours. I'm sure it would be much easier then misting the tank 2x daily.

$2 rubbermaid container with screw on lid.
$5 air pump.
$.98 clear air hose.
$.98 bubbler rock.
$.85 Clear hard plastic tube.

1. Cut plastic tube to desired length, glue on end shut with a dab of hot glue.
2. Drill two holes in rubbermaid lid about 2" apart.
3. Put tube down into water depth in the container and a attach bubbler rock, attach other end to cheap air pump.
4. Put second hose into the lid, but don't insert more than an 1".
5. Fill with water 2/3 - 3/4 full and make adjustments as necessary.

This is not my invention but it works great, here is the $50 version.....
