Diplodactylus

The pet shop I go to sells old issues of reptile magazines for a dollar, and I've been reading like crazy lately. This issue of Reptile from like 2001 had an article about a genus of gecko called Diplodactylus from Australia... There's a bunch of... Would you call it subspecies?... that range in size from like 2 1/2 inches to about 5 inches but have mostly very similar care requirements and whatnot, from what I read. All the ones pictured in the article were HOT! They have the craziest, prettiest colors!

I'm not generally a fan of many of the geckos, but these are neat! A few of these and a Tokay are on my wishlist!

I keep Strophurus. They used to be the same genus until the arboreal and the terrestrial species were split up.

Yeah, the article said something about that.

So are yours hard to care for?

I think they can be considered beginner/intermediate gecko aside from the expense of purchase. Although over the years, i've started keeping my geckos differently than what would be considered 'the norm'.

i know a guy who keeps desert geckos
he keeps them in clear plastic tubs, with
fine red sand, a hide and a water bowl.
for heating he puts a heat mat under half
the box
they are very cool geckos
