Please Please. SoOoO confused!!!

well i have 4 different tubs in my rack going, and well I know to put the thermostat probe directly on the flexwatt and have all the flexwatt pluged into the thermostat so those will all be the same temp. But to check the temp inside the tub i only have one acurite and it seems as tho it may not be correct but thats not my problem. how do i go about checking the ambient temp(in the tub) because i dont want to use the same probe with all the snakes due to obvious reasons. and i know there is an easier way to check all the temps then having to go out and buy a thermometer for each one. i just dont know what the easier way is. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a temp gun would work

Buy a temp gun, theyre like $40 at home depot. Or just buy a couple more accurites. Either way, itll cost you the same.

I hope the snakes arent in the new rack yet if you dont have your temps stable...

40 bucks, are the readings accurate. That's pretty cheap. oh and no I started working on the temps about 2 days ago (knowing they were going to arrive today) and all day yesterday they were at a stable 90. so temps are fine, but i know they can change every once in a while so i will look into the temp gun

I have noticed that some Accurites can be wrong. I had two in my incubator last year and one was off by 2 degrees. I used my temp gun to check which one was right.
I got my temp gun at the local Hobby Town for $30.

did you put your new snakes in the rack with your other snakes?

With the accurite that I have, it has a sensor on a long wire, for indoor and outdoor temps. You can put the wire in the bottom bin, and the unit in the top bin. Then the "outdoor" temp is the temp in the bottom bin, while the "indoor" temp is the temp in the upper bin.
The middle bins should be between the top and bottom readings. The top bins sometimes get warmer than the bottom ones, so it's important that you check all the bins as much as possible.

In a well designed rack, with all the tubs the same, and the heat source the same for all tubs, the temp should be close to the same in all tubs. As already mentioned, a heat gun is fantastic for spot checking. Otherwise, you can use an acurite (or similar) to check each tub individually. Once you have determined that all tubs are pretty much equal, spot checking is all that is necessary. Constantly monitor one tub, and spot check the others on a regular basis and you should be ok.

just to be clear, and i promise i am not trying to quibble semantics... there is quite a difference between a "heat" gun and a "temp" gun. The temp gun is the one needed for this application. Heat guns are good for taking down stubborn wallpaper.

Thanks! I hadn't had my coffee when I posted that. A TEMP gun is definitely the way to go, not a HEAT gun!
