Solomon Island Ground Boa

I think I have decided for my next snake to be a solomon island ground boa. Before I get one I was wondering if any of you all could share your experiences with these guys (specifically how you weened them off frogs). Also, where do you get frogs to feed to them?

im working on weeing mine this week. i got my frogs from a guy in south florida. DTS reptiles.....say what you want about Dan but he went out of his way to get these for me. mine are laid back and easy to care for. 82 degrees and a tub with a good sized water bowl and your golden. sometimes you can find them already on pinkys if you look around.

is a dwarf isabel island ground boa the same as an solomon island ground boa? (as far as size and care goes)

Also if someone could recommend me a good breeder I would appreciate it. I read some of what the DTS guy has done and said and its just to sketchy for me. But im greatful your snakes got to you just fine :). Im probably going to get one that is already eating mice. Thanks for all your help lucas!

the isabel islands are about the same in size and care. they just look different.

i've tried two weeks in a row with no success on getting mine eating sented pinks. i only have 2.5 frogs left so im saving the whole ones as a just in case. the half one is my senting one. i mushed it up and dipped the pinks in it with no luck. fingers crossed for next week!!

Santa Isabel is an island in the Solomon's. It's a locale thing... although it seems every white paulsoni is now call an Isabel. Good luck finding breeders, it's fairly sporadic, the only person i see consistently breeding them is Jerry Conway, and personally I wouldn't do business with him, but that's all I'll say on that. Most babies are captive born, not captive bred.

The only real way to work on feeding them mice is trial and error. Some take them right away, some don't. Some eat frogs but not lizards, some eat both, and some don't eat at all. Candoia can be extremely upsetting. I lost my favorite male last summer after nursing him back to health and keeping him for 3 years. When i got him he was all black, which severe scale rot, mites and eating nothing. I was looking for a male so i got him, not the most responsible thing I've done, but he was a beautiful animal once health, and worth every moment of grief he gave me.

I'm taking a brief hiatus from doing anything besides keeping Candoia, but next year i'm hoping to have the 'waigeo form/locale' once I move and settle myself back in. It's a crazy year.

Frogs are easy to find, most local pet stores carry green tree frogs. I got mine fat on frogs, every so often trying a pink as well, side by side. Then once they had good body weight i would take them off feed a bit and then only offer pinkies for a few weeks, and if that doesn't work start feeding frogs again, and just cycle it. You'll try different things every time and it's all about trial and error, and trying your hardest to keep the animal healthy.

Got my solomons today, since it was my birthday he sent me 3 instead of just 1 :O what a nice guy.

Sad thing is one arrived dead and the other male seems to be not doing to good he rarely moves, the female is eating and seems to be fine.

Pray for the little guy!

Should I keep him away from the female?

Sorry to hear about your male. I felt devastated when I once bouht a pair of ball pythons and I lost my female. :(

In any event, i would separate them to be on the safe side.
