Great bit for drilling plastic
I picked up a Unibit #3 last weekend, and it does such a great job making holes in my tubs that I thought I'd share.
It cuts larger and larger holes in steps as the bit moves in, without cracking the plastic. I won't be melting holes in tubs ever again.

Re: Great bit for drilling plastic
Been using a unibit for years, it is a handy-Jim-dandy tool to have. But I still use a soldering iron for making holes in tubs, it's faster and less mess.

I never thought about using a step bit on plastic tubs. You can get a better price at Harbor Freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91616

Put a board under it so it doesn't have any give, and you can drill right through into the wood without cracking the plexiglass. Just start small or use one of these bits.
Re: Great bit for drilling plastic
Thanks for the tip Jeff. I will need to give it a try.
As far as drilling acrylic, I use a bit that has been reground to a tip angle of 60 degrees versus the standard 120.

Your best bet though is to buy a bit specifically for acrylics. I use these also and find they work the best. I found these with a quick Google search.

Re: Great bit for drilling plastic
I ordered that bit in a 3 piece set for 32$ off ebay with free shipping, used it tonight....worked great. was waaaaaay fast, and cleanest holes I ever make in plastic. I drilled a few holes in a entire rack today, took 10 minutes to do the entire rack.:gj: Thanks for the tip.
