Thinking about getting a scrub python
I am thinking about getting a scrub python in the near furture and I have been researching their care but I need info on their temperment. Please state weather your scrub was CB,CH, or WC please. Thank you!
Re: Thinking about getting a scrub python
I have no direct experience with Scrubs, although a friend of mine has a pair. They are are a rather large snake, the pair that I have been around is 11'+
They are also extremely fast, and do not hesitate to use aggresion.
With that said, I have always wanted some! LOL

Re: Thinking about getting a scrub python
i don't personally own any, but pat is right... the majority of the scrubs you see are morelia amnthestina. they are big and can be untrustworthy.
a friend of mine has a couple dozen of them and let's just say he has a giant plexiglass shield that he uses when he feeds them. their feeding response is off the charts... they're also very smart for pythons.
a lot of people that own scrubs end up getting tagged in the back of the head or have some other weird story for ya. hopefully some will chime in... definitely a snake for the advanced hobbiest.
Re: Thinking about getting a scrub python
i have owned a barbeck it was a CBB from Dave Prada. This isn't a snake I would want to own as an import. They can reach as large as 13 ft and are a slender bodied arboreal animal. They are very fast and very alert as to there temperment. They can range from very calm to down right scary. Most if not all babies tend to be nervous and tend to calm down as they get older. Some settle down some don't all you can do it work with the animal and go into it like you may end up with a 13 ft and agressive. It is just something you have to be prepared for. I am not trying to scare you off they are amazing amazing snakes, but they demand respect. Buying it as a baby is the only way to go, that way you can rasie it learn how to handle your animal when it is young and as it grows. A lot better than buying an adult and you never know what you are going to get til you open the box. hope that helped if you want any more info let me know I have owned barneck, moluccan, and a tanimbar all fantastic animals.

My friend has a Moluc and it was a very calm baby. As it reached around a year and a half it turned into a jerk. at a yer it was about 5 feet. Super fast growing snake.

Colin is on target with the word untrustworthy, I would never trust a large scrub. That was mainly because the whole getting tagged in the back of the head story was mine. That was from my Moluccan, which was the calmest most "trustworthy scrub" I had. So I think when Colin says untrustworthy ya that is a fairly safe statement.
Re: Thinking about getting a scrub python
yeah i've never had a snake 'size me up' the way scrubs have.
chuck, i didn't know you kept scrubs... that's awesome. sometimes i want to sell off some carpets and get into the large arboreals.
Re: Thinking about getting a scrub python
I've only ever seen pics of large scrubs.......and just the pics freak me out. They look like they are having a never ending staring contest or something.

Ok, the getting tagged in the back of the head, i'm sure then, it wasnt funny, but omg i about fell out my chair to learn that. I don't really understand how you get tagged in the back of the head?
As far as scrubs go, I know a guy that has one, and its temperment differs on a daily basis. They're beautiful, but I can't really get another snake that gets big, my Yellow does me just fine. Otherwise I would get a scrub.
