Surprise clutch!
I went trough all my females yesterday and looked it anyone where gravid. And I have this really big female that weighs more than 4000 g and I felt nothing in her.
Today we had some guests that never seen a snake before so I thought that I would show them my biggest female so I opend her tub and there she was, sitting on eggs.
And now to the problem. Since this is a total surprise and I'm not expecting eggs until in april I dont have my incubator working. I had some escape rats that chewed the cables off to the fans. It's sunday evening so I cant get new fans until tomorrow. The heat is running pretty good in the incubator. It's 89 degrees in the middle of the incubator and 91 in the top.
Do you think that I would set up the eggs now and install the fan tomorrow or can I leave the eggs with the female over night and set them up after I install the fans tomorrow?
Regards, Mikael

Re: Surprise clutch!
Some people just let females incubate eggs and have pretty good success. They know how to do it, pure motherly instinct :D
I'd say best let the mother take care of them until you get an incubator set up and working.

Re: Surprise clutch!
Very exciting surprise! What was she bred to?
I'd leave eggs with mother until it's working for you 100%. She'll take good care of them for you until then. :)

Re: Surprise clutch!
Thanks, I will leave them with mom. I have misted alot of water in the other end of the tub so it's pretty high humidity in there now so I think they will be fine overnight :)
It's eight eggs and the female is a normal and she was bred to a Fire, Spider, Black Pastel and a YB so we'll see whats coming out :)

Re: Surprise clutch!
I don't have any advice on your situation so I'll just wish you good luck...
But LOLZ at the rats! "No more baby snakes to eat us! Chew through the cords so they can't use the incubators!" :rolleye2:

Awesome!! Nice clutch!
I had the same thing happen earlier this month. I didn't even have the incubator turned on! I knew the eggs she coiled would be fine, but there was one she kicked out and I was afraid that one would go bad if i didn't hurry. I moved them after 24 hours - they were all veined. The kicked out egg is a little shrunken, but it't still doing ok 3 weeks later....

Re: Surprise clutch!
I converted a large stand-up freezer into an incubator, and did not install fans. I used it last season, and other than loosing a clutch to a two day power outage, all of the clutches hatched fine. Some people incubate at higher and lower temps, so I do not think that a degree or two from the top to the bottom of the incubator would make a difference.
BTW, grats on the eggs!!
Hope this helps.
