Feeding Question....

I was just trying to feed my little butter girl a f/t mouse, and she struck a few times at first and missed. Finally, she struck and coiled. She stayed coiled for about the usual amount of time, and then left the mouse alone.

I took the mouse out and warmed it back up to try and get her to strike again. She struck and coiled again, and left the mouse alone again.

Would you advise leaving the mouse in over night to see if she eats, or take it out and try again tomorrow.

She ate 4 days ago, maybe it's possible she's not hungry yet.

Please help.....

I would leave it in overnight to see if it was a security issue.

They are quite vulnerable while eating so if they do not feel safe they might just leave it.

Were you hovering nearbye watching her? One of mine used to be a nervous nellie and would only eat if I offered it late at night in a dimly lit room and then immediately left so she couldn't see any movement or "threats". :rolleyes:

She did get over it quite quickly though.

If she doesn't eat I wouldn't try and offer again until the next scheduled feeding day - and I probably wouldn't handle between times in case that helps her feel safer.

Were you feeding her in her enclosure or moving her to a different container to feed?

Yeah... I was watching her at a short distance. I've watched her before, and she's never had a problem.

And I did feed her in her enclosure.

Not real sure what happened. She's only around 100 grams or maybe a little more. I fed her a good size mouse 4 days ago. Maybe she's just not hungry again yet.

Feeding every 5 days is sufficient.
