    Belly burn ?
    Hi all

    I have freaked out!!

See below some pictures of my pythonīs, Tequila, belly.

    http://i647.photobucket.com/albums/u...rep/Belly1.jpg

    http://i647.photobucket.com/albums/u...rep/Belly2.jpg

    http://i647.photobucket.com/albums/u...rep/Belly3.jpg

He ate this morning as usual and then shed straight after (I keep to his feeding schedule even if heīs in the middle of a shedding cycle). In between the shedding he peeīd and pooped.

When he finished shedding I will cleaning his enclosure and noticed some tiny blood spots on the paper towels. This is when I started to panic.

I was checking him out and noticed the bottom half of his belly quite red and near to the end some really tiny blood spots. Itīs abit wrinkly on one part, but I there are no flakey scales, blisters, nor any signs of scale rot (atleast that with my little experience I can see). Could this be burn because the heat mat?! What should I do?

My issue is that there are no herp vets around here and itīs really difficult to take him to the only one I know which is quite far away.

    Any suggestions please...

Because I know you guys like to have full details:

Heīs in a 24 gallon glass viv.
Day light on for 12 hrs, 8am -8pm, on a timer.
6W heat mat on a thermostat (though as mentioned I think this has broken as Iīve been getting some weird readings.)
I mostly use the heat mat but because of the bad winter weīve had over here I have been alternating with the heat lamp to maintain temps.
I do have thermometers but I also bought a temp gun which is what I use now.
    Temps (just taken):
    Hot side: 89°F
    Cool side:79°F
I usually try to keep them at 91°F on the hot side and no lower than 80°F on the cool side, but due to this I have removed the heat mat and placed the Heat lamp so am adjusting it to get there.
I donīt actually monitor the humidity cause here we have a high humidity anyway. I do mist him everyday and more often when heīs shedding. Always had good sheds.
Always eaten on schedule, except for 3 meals he missed end of Dec/beg of Jan.
    On paper towls
    Two hides, on each side.
    Water bowls
    Some plastic plants

    Donīt think Iīve forgotten anything!

Your setup sounds fine to me. If you were using a faulty thermostat that could have caused the problem. I would invest in some flexwatt and a new thermostat as soon as you can.
I am no expert, but you could put some neosporin or polysporin on the burn to make sure it doesn't get infected.

    Re: Belly burn ?
Am afraid I canīt get any flexiwatts over here, and having them sent over cost too much.
But I will be goin on monday for a new t-stat, and will prob get a hydrometer just in case. dont want to risk it.
I have applied some tamodine as I donīt have any neosporin, but will also be getting some on monday.

If it doesnīt clear away in a few days I will have to find a way to go to the herp vet.

    Many thanks! :)

My snake got thermal burns because of a UTH that didnt have a thermostat setup. From the pics your snake does not apprear to have any serious burns so you lucked out. But take the UTH out right away. But just be aware that using the heat lights kill humidity levels so monitor those levels close.
I would suggest buying the Herpstat. On of the guys on this site sells them and they have worked perfectly for me. I like to support fellow members of this.

Iīd like to support fellow members also but am from Gibraltar, south of spain, and I find it hard to get good stuff around here. Most of it I have to order online.
Hopefully it will clear out soon.

    Many thanks! :)

Herpstat don't work in Europe because of the different current. At least that's what I was told by the manufacturer. Better try to get a reliable thermostat from a European manufacturer.

Oh i totally forgot you guys use 240. Ya that def wouldn't work then. See if you can find spyder robotics. They are the people that make the thermostats and see if they have stores in Europe or if they can sell one for you.
