22x22 too small for an adult male bp?
I know cages sizes have been covered over and over, but it appears there isn't really a general consensus.

I'm really liking the idea of the divided 4ft RBI cage, but don't know if it'd be big enough (22x22). I've had my bp in a 40 breeder for years, but it kinda seems like overkill.

I've seen the 3x2x1, but I have a small town home that is being taken over by my newborn daughter, and I like the idea of consolidating my two cages to one.

I also live in Chicago and during the winter our indoor temps can hit 68 degrees so I've always used overhead heat.

    So....

-Is 22x22 sufficient for an adult male?
-How would you suggest heating it given that our place can get as cool as 68 degrees?

Because it gets so cold, you could try a radiant heat panel. Those are basically like insulated flexwatt.

How big is your male? 22 by 22 sounds like plenty of room for a smaller full grown male, but probably not enough room for a gigantic female.

I've never measured his length accurately, but I know he is under 4ft. His current weight is 1200 grams.

whew that is a pretty big boy! Length doesn't really tell as much as weight does. It might be a little tight for a BP that size. You could give it a whirl though.

22 x 22 gives you less floor space than a 32 Qt tub. A 32 Qt tub is the minimum I would think about for an adult male. I'd even go with a CB-70 for a male larger than 1500 grams, if you have one that big.

    According to Reptiles Basics a 32qt is 16 1/8" x 23 3/4" which is 382.96 square inches. 22" x 22" is 484 square inches. A CB-70 has 596 square inches of floor space.

I'm now confused as to how much space is enough vs too much.

In this case, I don't think it is a matter of "too much" rather than too little. You are right though, a 22 by 22 does have more floor space than a 32qt.

Try setting up the space with the hides and other cage furnishings and see if the ball python would fit comfortably.
