question to all big time and small time breeders out there
I was wondering, how long did u own pythons till u got into breeding? also i worry that if i ever get into breeding that i will start to think of my snakes as more of a business and less of my beloved little friends, did that happen to any one?

    A few years...

    Then wanted to breed.

    So, got into it.

And they never stop being your pets.

They are animals. Caring for them is part of the job :)

I kept my first one for 3 years before I even thought about it. I bought my frist group of breeders and still waited a year or more before I did any breeding

I finally got permission to get my first snake when I was 10. I didn't think of breeding till I was in high school.(thats the snakes not myself) And XX years later I was able to keep reptiles again and decided to breed them again. So I would say I kept them as pets for quite a while to fully appreciate and understand the beauty of them. I just have alot more now.

Don't rush it. Take your time and enjoy the animal. The breeding part is just another part of it's life cycle.

when i was in high school i got a pair of beardies and wanted to breed them. i tried with no luck. in college i really didn't have time for them so i sold them. after school and alot of pleading with the wife, i started into snakes. i got my chondro first about 2 years ago and picked up ball pythons late last year and started to collect those i want to breed. i haven't bred anything yet, but his year should be a good season for me....well i hope!!

It was close to 10 years before I got into breeding them. I got my first one in 1993 and I didnt start breeding until 04/05 season. I still have my first hes a male. I wont ever get rid of him.
