Rack tub ventilation

I've ordered a rack from Reptile Basics and I see it is very tight with no ventilation whatsoever. I assume you drill holes in the tubs to add ventilation but wanted to check with you experienced rack owners.

I'd either use a small enough water bowl to keep the humidity at the right level, or start off with a few holes in the tub and go from there.

A soldering gun works great for adding vent holes

Do a test tub first, set up rack system water dish with all your probes for humidity and heat, meaure humidity then start adding holes accordingly :)

Thanks. That's what I was thinking. I live where the humidity is fairly high most of the year (50% and greater) so it will likely not be an issue (actually, not far from you). I just want my BPs to get adequate O2.

mmhmm 2nd that, you need a pretty well ventilated area though as it smells well like burning plastic.

I have several 32 qt SweaterBox racks from Rich at RBI. For the 32 qt Iris tubs, I use 7 x 1/4 inch holes low on the front of the tub, and 7 x 1/4 inch holes high on the back of the tub (promotes air exchange). You really don't need any on the sides unless your humidty runs too high.

I would advise you start with less holes than I use, and adjust from there based on your ambient environment.

drill some holes, if the humidty is too high drill some more, if the humidity is too low cover some up with tape

The racks that I have from Reptile Basics, 32 quarts and 6 quarts, have adequate ventilation. If your humidity is too high, you can solder holes in the tubs.
