Handling my new ball python - am I impatient or is this normal?
I just got my first BP indica a couple days ago. I cannot help this feeling that i want to handle her very badly. I am in love with this little snake of mine. I have 3 dogs and my wife said (jokingly) that the snake is more important to me than her and my dogs  .

Am I impatient or did anyone else have trouble waiting a week before handling their first ball? :snake:

Anyone who says they were not impatient about handling their first snake, probably didn't want one to begin with. Congrats on the new one!

Sounds to me like you have your priorities pretty straight. lol. i have multiples too. it's funny, when i get a new snake, i end up holding my others more. it's perfectly normal. Man up and deal with it. lol

I read it over and over and over that you're not supposed to handle them for a week or whatever. I got my bp from a show that she wasn't really handled that much at but for me handling her before I said she was mine lol!! I did handle her a little too much for her first week and then it hit me like a load of bricks, no she didn't regurg her food or act skiddish, just realized that I shouldn't have been handling her. She is really an exceptional snake and sometimes I think it depends on the snake. However saying that, I don't recommend anyone else doing what I did cause all in all, it's best just to wait.

Congrats on the new baby and remember, patience is a virtue!!

I got my ball python Maxwell a few weeks ago, the first day i brought him home i put him in his tank and watched him explore for about 2 hours, (i woke up about 9 times that night and ran over and looked in and watched him for about 10 minutes. lol.) then the next day i couldent resist (its my first snake!) and i got him out and handled him for like 10 minutes.. then from there on out ive been getting him out about 2 times every day.. im still making sure he doesent stress though, and he/she eats like a pig, so i know he/she's ok with it.:pinkele::carrot:

i hate to say it but i never followed that rule and all mine have turned out to be exceptional snakes. the only problem i ran into was my little bino boy wouldnt eat so i had to leave him alone after a week he was eating like no other.
