Tomorrow is DAY 40

She is very uncomfortable and swollen and past due to lay. I worried last season at 37 days (of course I also had one that caught me off guard by laying at 29 days) and she is past that and doesn't look like she will drop any day soon.
How long was the longest you had a girl go and when would you say it's time for a vet visit to make sure she isn't eggbound?

Mine laid on the 41st day after prelay shed, she was 3500 grams before lay eggs then 2100 grams after lay 13 eggs.

What are the temps like? The cooler the temps the longer it should take. I would definately be concerned. Hope I see a "She Laid "thread tomorrow.

I do remember seeing a thread where it took 50 days. I would imagine the temps were on the cooler side.

Agreed, some of my females that ovulate earlier whenever I'm still cycling tend to take longer to lay, I've had females take 56+ days before. From what I've noticed, it's best just to wait, unless the female starts looking fairly misshapen or there is something obviously wrong with her, then it never hurts to see what's up.

Ben gives excellent advice. I had a girl go 57 days last year after POS. I wouldn't really worry until you got to about day 60. Another thing you can do is to hold the female by the neck and the tail and lift her tail toward the sky, while watching the eggs (you should be able to see them easily). Pay attention to how they move (they will move toward the head). Then lift the head back up, and watch the eggs fall back toward the cloaca. You can get a better idea of how free the eggs are, and how close to the vent the last egg is. It will give you some idea if there is a restriction.

With all of that said, I hear alot of people talking about egg bound females, but I only know of one instance where it really occured. I think it is a more common occurance in colubrids, but I believe it is pretty rare in Ball Pythons. If the female is smaller, it could be that the egg is too big, and aspirating the egg may be the route to take if she holds on too much longer and appears to start swelling excessively near the vent.
