    When I feed my snakes
My dog goes craazy shell cry and cry and whine and whine, she loves the little rats. whenever i have a rat for a few days that a snake wont eat, shell lay by it and guard it and watch it, then its even worse when its feeding time cause she gets atached adn reaally cries, especially when she hears the rat squeak...she knows its done...anyone else have this experience..i fint it fascinating. sOrry if this is the wrong "topic" or whatever.

    That's horrible!!

I feel so bad for the dog... can't you keep them separated?

Well if it upsets your dog, simply put her out of the room so she won't get upset. My female Lab is very interested in our rats but it's more like she stuffs her nose in their enclosures while I'm feeding them, they race over, nip her nose, she jumps and yips, then does it again if I don't kick her out of the room (then she sits at the door and whines to come back in and get her nose rat nipped again). Labs are great dogs, not too smart though LOL

Simple solution, dog goes outside during feeding time. Its actually kind of messed up that the dog has to go through that every time the snakes eat, I'd put the dog outside just to save it the grief. Or you could just feed f/t.

How does your lab react to your snakes? I have a yellow lab that will be introduced to my new addition in about a month. Of course the dog will be outside, and the snake inside. They really won't see each other very often. Is it possible to get the dog used to the snake? It would be nice to take the snake on dog walks when the weather gets nice. However, there is no need for undue stress on either animal. How did you introduce your dog?

I wouldn't take my snake on walks... just seems too stressful.

aight for all yall saying put my dog in another room or outside..i live in a 2 bedroom apt. and my roommate wont take my dog out cuz shes strong as on oxe and will drag him round the neghborhood...i keep em seperated as much as possible...but did i mention shes strong as an oxe...and if shes in a room alone while im home...not good she goes crazy...so best i can do is hold her back while still keeping a close eye on my snakes and a free hand to hold my...whatever i happen to be holding at the moment to make sure the rat dont eat the snake..and as far as dogs and snakes getting along..my dog..shes a one year old pitbull/airedale mix and in my honest opinion thats the best mix of dog ever, or maybe its just her...and for the first couple days it was sniff sniff all over the snake...cuz i tried to keep them seperated..one time i just let her sniff the snakes tail, and since then she hasnt given them the time of day...

Well that is still not safe for the snakes if you have a big dog going nuts whenever you feed. You need to be devoting all your attention to monitoring the snake/rat if you are going to feed live. Sounds like that dog needs a little discipline if you can't leave her in another room for 10 minutes by herself.
