    Is this normal?
I've had my snake for two weeks now. I've taken him out a few times in the last week and he never wants to stay still. Every time I take him out, he is constantly looking for a place to hide. In tank behavior seems very normal. Hiding most of the time and out a bit at night laying on the log I have in there. I don't want to stress him out more by taking him out when he's not all that comfortable with me. He's a few years old and in very good condition health wise.

The ball python I have had for about 6 months is very calm when I take her out and just chills, while the girl I have had for about a month is all over the place when I take her out.
Just give him some time to get to know you. :D

So it's probably still ok to take him out once in awhile? I'd like to take him out for a bit every day.

Yea it should be fine to take him out when you want.

I think they are all different when it comes to accepting handling and the amount of that handling. For this snake, being handled every day may be a bit much. How about dropping it to every other day and making sure the time that your snake is being handled is a very quiet time for both of you. I have bp's that never stress out over handling, I have others that can barely tolerate it.

I handle the snakes during 2 occasions:

    1. When I am doing rack maintenance. Long enough to move from one tub to another.

    2. 2 days after feed just to make sure things are ok. I feed weds and I look around on sat morning. 5 minutes top for me for each one.

I'm not saying this is what you should do. Since balls are the solitary type I tend to treat them as such. Maybe setup a day during the week when you handle for a bit while the rest of the week you fight temptation :D. This should give you an opportunity to observe behavior and understand your scale kid a bit more. It's all about the mood. Mine never stay still and "chill", they are roamers.
