Unless your house temps are below 70*, I'd drop the light.

Also, maybe get some terrarium background covers to make the snake feel more secure and increase insulation.

The thermostats can be found online... www.reptilebasics.com, www.spyderrobotics.com

If it were me I would go with reptilebasics.com I would order my caging from RBI. They are a little pricey but VERY WELL WORTH the money.

I would use a spyder robotics herpstat ND (if you only have one) or the II or Pro (depending on how many you have), these thermostats can not be beat.

I just used a cheap tub from office depot with a UTH and thermostat ($25) as a temporary until my rack came in.

As with most things, cheaper is usually not better. Proportional T-stats are much easier on your equipment than the on/off type, and provide more consitant heat. With a good T-Stat like the Herpstat, it pays to spend the extra money.

If your room gets sooo cold, you're gonna have to get a very well insulated cage; like those made by RBI or Animal Plastics for example. I don't think belly heat with a lamp would do the trick to heat the cold side to at least 80*....

You read my mind DutchHerp! Lol...excellent advice. RBI has great prices on heating equip. & the customer service is great too.

I know this'll cost a lot of money, but IMO belly heat will NEVER get you the desired temperatures in a room in the low 60s.

The best way to do this is to get a space heater and get the room to the 70s.

If you don't want to do that, IMHO the best way to go about getting the right temperatures is to an RHP in a nice plastic cage, like those from RBI (they sell RHPs as well as cages).
