    Second UTH?
So I have a 40 gallon tank for my BP. Currently, I have an UTH (a medium size I believe) on one side, and a heat bulb up top. I want the opposite side to be warmer at night, as I think she's been staying under her log because it might be too cold for her. I really don't need something huge, just enough to raise it a couple degrees. So, should I get a mini size, meant for a 10gal tank, or a small (10-20gal)? If I get a second UTH, do I even need the bulb at all since it dries out the tank a lot?
Also, is it better to put the UTH under the tank or on the side? I had one on the bottom of my old tank and it got ridiculously hot. When I put it one the side, it gave a more even spread of heat.

I have a 40 gal for my normal and I have 2 UTH heaters and a CHE in the middle. I have the larger size for the hot side controlled on a thermastat and the smaller one for a 20 gal on the cool side controlled by a rheastat (the CHE is as well) this set up keeps the levels perfect 24 hours a day. 92 on the hot side, 82 on the cool side and the air at 80/82*.

You don't find the CHE dries the tank out, especially in the winter?

I spray it a few times a day and also have a humidifier running in the same room and it keeps the levels at 50/60%.

What are your temps and how are you measuring them?

I have a thermometer with a probe under his hide on the warm side and it's usually about 85. Then I have a digital thermometer in the middle for amb, that's around 80. I currently have nothing on the cool side, but this weekend, I'm going to pick up a new UTH and maybe another thermometer.

I'm tired of using bulbs as they just dry everything out, so I might scrap both the CHE and the day bulb. I even have one of those homemade humidifiers going into the tank, but the lamps overpower it.

So, will a medium and a small UTH be enough to heat the tank? And I'm still wondering if it's better to have the UTH under the tank like they say, or on the side of the tank.

Or, should I get two mediums and have one lower using a rheostat?
