Interested in JCP

I am pretty knowledgeable on BP's and their husbandry, is a JCP's husbandry similar? temps and what not? Also can I keep a JCP in a tub like a BP? Just wondering cause im reading they are aboreal... anyone care to chime in and list any similarities if any. Thanks!

you can keep them like a ball only slightly cooler.
they're 'semiarboreal'... they need a good 18" of height in my opinion. so yes, a tub is fine, as long as it has the height. they are also more active than a ball.

They are both pythons, That's the only real similarity. Carpets are a bit cooler temps, and more humidity. Tubs are great for carpets! That are semi-arboreal. This means they tend to climb the stuff you put in the tank and stay there but as they get older they naturally know that they are heavier so you have to add bigger branches. Even then I've noticed them spending more time on the cage floor. Carpets are easy to care for, all you have to do is google and search. Tons of sites and care sheets on them that are better written than I can do.

actually you can keep carpets at the same humidity as ball pythons. The whole carpets require high humidity isn't true, unless they are in shed.

and by higher humidity in shed I mean 60% any thing over that has no benefit to the animal.

i agree, i keep mine at 40-60%.

If you keep them in cages you can provide more thermal gradients; i.e., top to bottom and right to left.

I have a perch that gets to low 90s, a shelf that gets high 80s, floor mid 80s, cool side high 70s to low 80s.

As for humidity, I'd bump it up during shed cycle only.

He shed this week, his colors are SO MUCH brighter!

He's also losing more of his peppering :bow:

If you are used to BPs you'll need to watch out for that feeding reflex. My JCP struck the wall and cover of her terrarium a half dozen times while I was warming her rat today :P
