UTH set up in wood cage ?

ok im not sure whether to put this here or in the caging forum but where do you put the UTH on a wooden cage? ... i dont think enough heat would make it thru the wood if placed underneath .. would laying rubber down on the bottom of the cage and placing the UTH under that work? or would it just melt or potentilly release harmfull fumes ?? any advice would be great thanks !

how thick is the wood?as long as its not thicker then the substrate specs on the UTH package i dont see an issue with the heat not making it though

remember it may take a long time for the wood to reach the heat you need but it will get there as it slowly absorbs the heat of the UTH until they match.

I would go with a radient heat panel.

Cobra heat mats by zoo med are great. They don't have a sticky side and can be used in or outside a tank. I would go with a mat that was made for in the tank and cover it with substrate.

The pictures below shows you what i did for a guy who wanted me to customize his cage.

i tape the Ultratherm down. then i tile the whole floor leaving the uth exposed but NO TAPE. all is sealed town with hot glue(no chemicals). pictures are self explanatory.

when ever using wooden cages i always put inside cage as being on the outside you wont achieve proper heating. I also hot glued the Johnson t-stat probe down onto the uth so it can not be moved.
