    Hognose questions
I got my first hognose today, a few hours ago, and I would like to see your setups for your hognose, If anybody could just give me some general care specs for the snake id also appreciate it, it's still a baby, and its very docile, seems a little flighty, but hopefully over the next few weeks itll relax.

Here is a good care sheet. I basically set them up exactly like in the pics shown, although I'll soon be setting up an ARS rack since I plan on buying a lot more.

Likes to burry itself in the bedding? Mine did that a lot as a hatchling, but quit doing it when it was older. Not sure if that is how it usually works, though, as it is currently my only Hog.

yea it stays in the bottom corner, away from the heating pad, that brings me to my next question, i been limiting the heating pad on/off because it gets really hot, is there someway to make the under tank heater voltage change or something to where its not so hot? it wouldnt be so bad if it didnt bury itsself, but i dont want it to die or anything.

Just get a thermostat and place the temperature probe over the pad. If you buy a proportional thermostat, then it will adjust the power give to the pad. If you get an on/off one then it will turn it on and off keeping the tank near the correct temperature.

A rheostat/lamp dimmer would help adjust the heater.A thermostat is best, but dimmers work fine if you don't mind checking the temps often and adjusting as needed.I have my baby Hoggie in a 9qt tub with a UTH on a dimmer. It has aspen, and the smallest Exo Terra Cave and food dish for water. She spends most of her time tunneling around.

yea but would that adjust the temperature of the heating pad? i dont want a thermostat becausse i dont like having all the wires like that, i remem seeing something at petco or petsmart that you plug your heating pad into and you controlt he voltage to lower the temperature, is that rheostat/lamp dimmer the same thing?

    Re: Hognose questions
what i have right now is a 10 gal tank, aspen bedding a reptile cave hide, a water bowl, and a 60w uvb bulb up top, i keep on 12 hours, then off 12 hours, and i just let it sit at night, i dont even have the heating pad hooked up right now because when i turn the light off, it stays about 77 degrees.

sorry about the bad pic, the little booger wouldnt stay still, im not sure if its a male/female but its very nice, im working on getting it un-head shy but its never puffed or hissed or played dead or anything on me, im assuming its just a regular hognose. i sold my digital camera so i had to use my camera phone.
