    Don't be SKEERD
I had to put on my big girl panties, and now it's time to deal with it. Fear that is.

:weirdface 8 legged things freak me out a bit... well, a lot actually!

So I took the plunge and brought home a T.

Picked up a G. Rosea at the All Animal Expo.

    Here's Rosey...

    Good job! :gj:

Bad thing for you is T's are addictive, you'll soon want more.... :D

Are we going to see a pic of you holding the little 8-legged gal?

There is just nothing like eight legs, some fangs and a little venom!

    Hmmm... Hold her? :weirdface

I want to, but I'll be honest the thought of that scares the crap out of me :O
Partly because I heard their venom is like that of a bee sting, and I', allergic to bees. I wonder if there is any truth to that. Guess I will have to research some more

Right now I plan on admiring her from a distance

It's sad because my kids hold her like it's nothing, and of coarse they have to give me a hard time. "Come on Mom stop being such a Sally" Little brats :P

As soon as I manage to take the next leap and hold her...I will make sure to have someone snap a pic or two ;)

Nice T! I'm really terrified of spiders too, and the only spider that I have ever (and probably will ever) hold is our rose hair T at my work. He's a sweetie as far as Spiders go.

    Such a beautiful little girl!

Bites are pretty rare with this species, I wouldn't be too worried. They are actually pretty docile. :)

Just remember, if you decide to take the plunge and hold her, do so safely (for her, not you). Set on a bed, floor, somewhere she can not drop onto the floor, or any hard object. A short fall (2-3') can be lethal to them. Also make sure you are confident in yourself. If you are afraid, you could end up slinging her across the room.

I'd take a long time to just get used to being comfortable with her presence. I was also pretty frightened of arachnids. I've since gotten over it, but it's important to feel comfortable before doing anything other than watching them. :)

I watched someone who worked with Tarantulas for ten years sling a G.pulchra across the table. It reared up to nail him and he decided a $300 living creature wasn't worth the risk. Trust me, the money meant more to him than the Tarantula, but it was upsetting for me to watch because it was a living creature.

As a general rule of thumb, I never handle Tarantulas. I consider them display only. Many other keepers have just as much success in handling every animal they acquire, I just don't feel the need.

Anyway, she's a pretty girl! I hope you can be converted! They are just as addictive as reptiles (only much cheaper to keep!).

    Lena, she is beautiful! :)

Congrats on multi-legged friend. I am with you, they scare me, but I would love to have one.

I like Chrissy comments that they can be a display only pet.

Thanks! She is fascinating to watch, but I think that's as far as it goes for me

Thanks Michelle! I'm pretty sure she will be a display only type of pet ;) As of now I have ZERO interest in holding her. With my luck they can probably sense fear and I would end up getting bit :O I have a golden gecko that I believe to be WC (I have had him for a number of years) and he has never calmed down. He is my other "display only" pet :P It just got to the point where it wasn't worth having him drop his tail every time we tried to handle him in the beginning. Plus when he bites - he DOESN'T let go :8:

Thanks Bruce! I agree... I am terrified of her, well when she's not in her tank
She is cool to watch, but I think that is where I have to draw the line

Thanks Pat! It was a hard one to bit! I always said I would NEVER allow one in my house! Guess I was fooling myself  I have to thank my daughter for convincing me to bring it home to get over my fear :D
