Re: When wiring flex watt
the length of the wire has little to no effect. to say you would have identical temps is not something i'm willing to confimr. but they should be really close. and youd be fine to wire it like that :)
Re: When wiring flex watt
i think he means the length of the flexwatt is off by four inches, not the wire! Personally i would say, two separate tstats:gj:
Re: When wiring flex watt
the shorter one will be warmer.
Re: When wiring flex watt
again. no it wont
its all one long wire.
they will be the same regardless of if you have a 4 inch and a 4 foot piece togethor.
the panels are all connected at the same point. they are all drawing the same power and splitting the same line.
they will be the same! I can go into more detail if youd like?
Edit:
I'll ad a bit more.
The panels are all wired in Parallel. so it matters not in what arrangement they are. the + side of EVERY panel is essentially touching and the Negative side of evrey panel are touching. there for they are all in parallel
IF you were wiring in series. and have different panels in series I.E. 4 panels in series on one line and 8 panels in series on a seperate line. than YES they would run different temps if on the same t-stat :)
But please if you think or know I'm wrong feel free to explain and we can discuss it. I do have 4 years of school related to electronics and electrical :D
Re: When wiring flex watt
What if you had 2 sections (30" long) of 4" wide heat tape and one section (30" long) of 3" wide heat tape and 4 sections (1 foot long) of 11" wide of heat tape. Will all of them have the same tempature????

It's suggested to not use different widths of flexwatt on the same thermostat since they use different wattage.

Well the 4" is 8 watts and the 3" is 10 watts. so NOPE you wouldnt get a consistant temp. I think the three would stay hotter.
Stick with the same size. length should effect anything though :) width will
