Is my lighting causing stress?
Hello,
I am using lights to supliment my UTH in order to maintain correct ambiant plus basking area. I am using a white (75W) heat light during the day & then red light at night. The temps are good & stable. But, I am worried if the lights are adding stress.
Thanks
Re: Is my lighting causing stress?
Lots of people have lights in their cages, including me.
I don't see problems.
Are you seeing signs of stress?
Re: Is my lighting causing stress?
dont switch bulbs just stick with the red one 24/7. red is naturally harder for reptiles to see and doesn't disturb them at night. i have never used white as the resort of being too bright for them. stick with red or IR bulbs

I don't think lights would be stressful, especially if it is a red light. How is your humidity holding up though?
Also, I am pretty sure ball pythons don't bask, so they don't need a basking spot. That is mostly a lizard thing.
Re: Is my lighting causing stress?
Hi,
My humidity is difficult to maintain with the lights. I have a humidifier in the room, I added moss today, & mist occasionally. With all this my Humidity is staying 40-50%. Any tips?
Thanks!

cover the screen, except a hole for the light, with a layer of tin foil and a layer of duct tape over it. That should help with humidity. %50 humidity is fine for a ball not in shed.
Re: Is my lighting causing stress?
Your ball should be fine with the red light. I used to use a white one, but if I turned it off at night, it would be too cold for her, so I switched to red. So she knows it's daytime, I leave the rooms light on. She gets heat 24/7 this way (along with her UTH of course)
I also keep wet towels over her tank lid to keep the humidity up. I dampen them daily, more than once a day if she's shedding. It's worked pretty well for us.
Re: Is my lighting causing stress?
Hello,
Thanks for the help...For those using lights for supliment heat, the damp towel over top of cage does wonders for the humidity...Thanks for that tip! My humidity is holding at around 55-60. I think at some point I will try to get a more permanent solution to get away from maintanence of the towels. But, for quick fix seems to be working great
