Ball Python Breeding (female 07's for next season too early?)
I have noticed alot of ads lately with 07 Female ball pythons advertising them to be "ready to breed next season".
Do you guys think this is false advertising? If not,
Does anyone want to estimate a size that they think a 07 female would weigh at this time of the year in order to be able to breed her by next season?

Alot of 07s are breeding this year. I know of a few people who are breeding 08s!

Are you sure they're breeding 08 FEMALES? That sounds a little far fetched to me. I have definitely seen people breeding 08 males though.

I have an 07 female who is 1227 grams empty (off feed for two months now), and she's about twice the size of a lot of the 07 females I've been seeing for sale lately. Her previous owner was feeding her every three days!!! That's a lot for a girl her size and is undoubtedly part of why she got so big.

So yeah, it's perfectly reasonable to see 07s that could breed next year, but not all 07s are the same. Some people really powerfeed to get them up to breeding size sooner, which I don't agree with. I probably could have bred my girl this year, but I'm not breeding her until she's 1500+ grams. Her health and safety is worth waiting for me.

Im breeding a couple 07 females who are well over 1500g, they are fed a small rat a week...no "power feeding"

Even if up to size I don't think I would breed an 08 female.

i dont agree with breeding 08 females, i wont breed a female unless she is 2 years old or more and over 1200 grams, i know males produce sperm slugs as early as a few months after birth but that doesnt mean they are ready to breed, sometimes the health of the snake is more important than the money in your pocket

Must be a very early '08 female. Unless she is more like 1000 grams...

i have atleast 4 07 females that are 1000-1500 grams right now.
i also have some 06 females that are in that same range.

Minimum age is typically set as 18 months for females and I believe 5 months for males. Females should be 1500g at least and males should be 500g at least.

It may be possible to breed a female when she hits 1500g even if it is under 18 months. As such right now a very early 08 could be able to breed.

Notably "power feeding" can lead to serious health problems in snakes and will severely reduce their life span.
