Newbie Here!

I thought I'd make a quick "hello" post!

I'm new to the forum and new to snakes in general. After much research and talking to others, I bought my first snake over the weekend. He's all set up in a 30 gallon tank and doing quite well. (I'm fighting with humidity right now, but I'll find a way to keep it up where it should be!)

I look forward to getting to know more of you and learning more about my little guy.

depending on the szie of the snake 30gallon tank may be too big for the lil guy.

also if your using a screen top. cover the whole top leaving about a 2inch gap for air. most use foil and tape it down. this holds in humidity very well

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new snake.

I've found the best way to combat humidity problems is to use a humid hide box. It's not necessary for the entire enclosure be maintained at the proper humidity as long as the snake has someplace to go to find it and can choose for itself what type of environment it wants to be in.

The best way to do this is to get a plastic storage box that your snake will fit inside (they generally like a tighter fit better), fill it half full of damp sphagnum moss and cut an access hole in the top or side so that your snake has some place damp to hide if it wants to.

I am using a screen top and will definatly try covering it...sounds like a good idea. A humid hide is something I'm considering too. I live pretty far North and it's very dry here, especially in the winter.

And I guess I shouldn't call him a little guy - right now I'd say he's about 2 ..maybe 2 and a half feet long. Is a 30 gallon about right for this size? I haven't given him a proper measurment and weighing yet...going to do so on Friday when we attempt to feed him.

The store where we bought him from said he was feeding well, once a week, so I'm interested to see how that goes.
