building a rack today and have a spacing ?
so i am building my new rack/enclosure stand, and i have a ? on the spacing for the tub with flexwatt on the bottom? how much space do you guys leave in between the tub and the shelf above? i dont have any flexwatt yet so i cant lay it down and then put the tub down. just need to now how much space i should leave. im using 41qt tubs and will be using 11inch flexwatt.
Re: building a rack today and have a spacing ?
build the rack with CD's as spacers. That should be PLENTY of room once the flexwatt is acquired.
Re: building a rack today and have a spacing ?
how many cd's? or do you mean one cd case?
Re: building a rack today and have a spacing ?
I use 1 cd.
Flexwatt is almost paper thin
Re: building a rack today and have a spacing ?
For the space between the top of the tub and the shelf above it, for ventilation and ease of movement, I use 1/8" pegboard. For the space between heat and the bottom of the tub, I use 1/4" poplar strips since my heat sources are UTH pads.
For flexwatt, the riser doesn't have to be very thick, since the stuff is (as was said) paper thin. :)
Re: building a rack today and have a spacing ?
I use 2 CDs since this part of Texas has alot of humidity fluctuations(which in turn expands or contracts the melamine coated particle board I use). Plus, it helps in case I make a mistake, heh.

then put the tub on top, and another shelf and screw that sucker in!
Re: building a rack today and have a spacing ?
Since the tubs are never the same, I would measure each one, use the tallest one and add 1/8" to it. I cut a jig out of a scrap block so all of my shelves are the same measurement. Cut two strips of scrap shelving the height you want and place them for your spacers. It will save you time, not to mention it's always the same. When using spacers and tubs, tubs can sometimes flex causing inconsistencies. If I get time, I'll take a pic of what I'm trying to say. lol.
Re: building a rack today and have a spacing ?
Does anyone have any alternatives to CD's? I don't have enough sitting around to use and it's not worth it to go to the store and buy blanks just to stick under a snake tub.

Cut some blocks out of scrap for the exact height you want. All you need are two as long as they are long enough to reach near the front and back of the shelf as you screw it in place.
