    So....
So, with the current economy what is everyones breeding strategies for this year? Are you trying to produce alot of holdback females to raise up to breed once the economy is back on track, or are you trying to breed for more affordable base morphs (i.e. Mojaves, Albinos, Ghosts etc) that everyone needs in there collection and would more likely be able to afford right now? Or has your strategy not changed from years past?

My plans are to keep 80% to 100% of the females produced, I had planed to do this during my first 2 seasons, nothing to do with the economy just has to do with the need for more females. Hopefully this year I will produce more females than I did last year. (16.6 produced last year :()

Ehh, yeah I hear ya on that one Deb, I am going to be doing the same thing, probably 80% if I produce a good amount of females, if I don't get good sex ratios on my clutches, and only produce a few females I am thinking I will keep all of them. Although, I do plan on producing a good amount of Pastels, Mojaves and Yellowbellys, so if everything goes as planned I will have a few of these available this year. We'll see how it goes.

Well, I had planned on breeding Ophi this upcoming year, but I think that I'll hold off until 2010 and save up more money. I want to make sure that I can support my love for these guys first before I go having more.

Only my second year breeding, and have hit the point that I need to start being more efficient with my trades.

Hoping for at least 3 females of each morph to hold back, have one clutch that will be P-het blue hypos and will hold back all those females.

A few nice male codoms (Fires, Pastels, and YBs) would be nice to trade for other males, het recessive females, or to sell to add to the snake fund and to spend on the expansion of the the snake room. Better (AKA taller) racks, etc. as well as to round out the vet fund.

Last year I was disappointed to hatch out too many codom males (so I just sat on them as the market was crashing) but at the end of the year they were a god send, traded and sold enough to be able to purchase a year's worth of frozen feeders, a freezer, new incubator, better thermostat, and more morph females.

Just seems to be that it is 90% of having a plan in advance, knowing how long you are willing to sit on them, when to sell, what you need, etc.

This year I will hopefully be more prepared with how the market (and black market) works.

I keep all my females, never sold a single one. Just because I'm greedy :)

well, I haven't started breeding my snakes yet, but I already have an idea of who I'll be pairing with whom when the females are ready and I also am planning on purchasing a few more females. Depending on what pairings I do will determine what I hold back. But I can see how holding back most or all of the females produced is beneficial for ones breeding plans. :D

This is my second year breeding and most of what I produce this year will be all mine. I'll probably have some co-dom males and an albino for sale or trade but thats it. Lookin forward to keepin at least three lesser females an albino female, lesserbee and ivory. I'm super excited.

Hmm, looks like the economy isn't having my of an effect on breeding plans, which is cool, this is my first breeding season, and I plan on going all out and not worrying about the economy. I will be keeping back alot of females, but I will be producing alot of stuff to sale as well, hopefully, that way I can put money back into what I am doing to start a couple of other projects, and to sure up some of the projects I have already started. Its going to be a fun year, good luck everyone.
