Dinker, Just for Grins.....

I was doing a lot of cleaning and stuff tonight and while I was taking a little break I figured I'd get out the camera and take a few shots of a dinking around project that I've been working on. It's nothing special, but it's got me interested. So before I get a plethora of posts saying 'It's a normal' I just want to say.... 'Yes I know it is.....' So what? I'm doing it anyway..... Why??? because it interests ME.... Which is the only reason I'm in this hobby to begin with...

I've got this male I call freckles.... He's got a light freckled pattern down his sides... Not really what I'd call a granite or anything like that... But it's slightly odd. Also his color is different then my other snakes... Kind of a coppery brown color which doesn't show up real well in pictures but trust me, it's different. And his belly pattern is pretty neat.... It's what most people would associate with the piebald trait... He's a wild caught normal import that I adopted about 6 years ago from the MN herp society. It took me a while to decided whether or not I even wanted to breed him... But since I did, I figured I might as well see it through to the end...

How do you like that belly? Pretty Cool huh?

I bred him a couple of years ago to a spare female and produced 3 offspring. 1.2 babies. both females were born with WAY over extended bellies and were just stuffed with yolk so that they looked like sausages. One of the females (actually the better looking one) died soon after birth, but the other one did slim down to normal and started to thrive after a while... She has a very hazy dark pattern with a little bit of freckling, but not as much as her dad. Has the same dark copper color though, but her belly isn't as nice... (the other female had a belly EXACTLY like the father...) Here are some pics of frecklette.

Anyway... That's one of my special dinking around projects. Who knows if anything will come of it? Probably nothing at all. But it's fun to try anyway.
