het pricing

I am just curious if anyone can tell me why female hets are so much more expensive then male hets? I am new to this but from what I have been reading you need two hets to make a morph, correct? I am just curious maybe you guys can help me out.

Most females, morphs or not, are going to be more expensive because it takes so much longer for them to grow up and get to breeding weight. Generally, this takes about 2 1/2 to 3 years, or at their second winter. For males, they can generally breed after about a year. Some have even known to successfully breed under a year old (5 months +).

Because you can have one het male sire a boatload of het females. You only need one male. By having several females, it only increases your production of homozygous morphs. It usually works the opposite with the visual morph because you can breed a visual male to many females. I hope that makes sense.

Makes perfect sense. Supply and demand. Thanks a lot.

Another reason is that het females, whether sold or not, can still used by breeders to produce more visual morphs. Unlike males, if they already have the visual morph male, a het male is useless. :)
