thermostats

im not really sure where to get one if i need one how i hook it up, but a lot of people on here say they are good i dont know if they are good for glass aquariums like i have or just for racks but i would much like some input on this situation im a first time ball owner so im really in the dark on most of this stuff

I have a herpstat myself and I have no complaints whatsoever, but it's a little bit more pricey.

What you do is you hook the thermostat into a standard wall output, then you plug a heat source in the power outlet from the thermostat. A probe running from the thermostat going into the enclosure measures the temps, which then lets the thermostat apply more or less power to the heat source accordingly.

And yeah, they'll work fine in glass tanks :)

If you are heating using flex watt, UTH or RHP, you'll need a thermostat to control the heat that the source out-puts. It is a very important husbandry tool.

I use Helix's and Herpstat's (www.spyderrobotics.com) and if needing to choose between the two, I'd choose the Herpstat at this point. The basic Herpstat is $109 and the Helix costs $135 :)

i have a uth and a heating lamp i probably should not be using a tight beam basking light but i think a ceramic heating element would be better but can plug them both into the thermostat and manage both their heats accordingly make them the same temp and what not or should they be different

Sorry I don't really get the question... :confused:

If you purchase the Herpstat II it will control two different heat sources.

Depends on your room temperature. If it's above 75 I guess you can just use a UTH. Even if it's lower you can use just that if you can insulate the cage well enough.

I don't think he needs to control 4 different heat sources ;)
The Herpstat II controls two different heat sources :)
