They are more active at night. During the day, they sleep and their metabolism and blood flow slows, causing the pale coloration. This is my understanding of it.

Age also brings on color change. My pin stripe was a light tan/grey baby. Had no clue it was a pin.

All crested geckos experience daytime-dependent color change. All of mine "fire up" at night or during handling during the daytime.
I wish I hadn't lost my camera, my harlequin is INCREDIBLY different between daytime snoozes and when he's fired up.. goes between very light and pale to almost black.
