Interesting Call I Received
So, many of you know - I LOVE my vet. He's the bomb!
I'm over at Deborah's on Saturday, enjoying visiting with her and seeing her collection. So, my phone rings, and I don't know the number, but since we're supposed to meet up with new folks at the Repticon show, I go ahead and answer it.
It's my vet. At first, I'm really worried, because Diamond the dog went in two weeks before and had a senior wellness work up and I'm thinking they got back blood results and there was something wrong that he was calling me about.
Nope - he's calling me to see if I have any female rats available. A buddy of his had two, but one died and is lonely and needs a friend. All he said was "no albino, because that's what he has now, and wants to be able to tell them apart".
I thought it was pretty cool that my vet thought of me when looking for a good pet rat (he knows I breed them for feeders, as he is also the exotics vet on staff at the vet clinic, and he's also done surgery on one of my rats to remove a tumor).
Got a couple of litters that should be ready to wean in another week. It always makes me feel good when I can place a few in pet homes. :)
Re: Interesting Call I Received
That's nice :) I want an awesome vet, can we share? Lol

Of course the vet remembered you. You're probably the only person that ever paid him to remove a tumor from a rat. ;)

I took her in to have her put to sleep, actually. He aspirated it, said "no need to put a good rat down, I'll can just pop that out!"
I was like "yeah, for how much though?" He said "bring her in Friday, we'll do the surgery for $20". That was a year ago the day after Thanksgiving and she's still my very best nanny rat in my colony. She was also my first breeder rat.
I spent close to $100 on another rat that he treated that we tried to save (but failed) that had a really bad RI and inner ear thing going on. Some people here will remember Noel, my Christmas rat. And that was just on meds - he's never charged me an office visit for the rats or the snakes.
He knows exactly who I am because I'm probably the client with the most pets on file, between rats, snakes, dogs and cats that he's seen. And I usually bring a snake for him to see when I bring in one of the fur babies, because he's never seen any of the morphs in person. He wants one of my lemon pastel babies now. He has boas himself.
Oh yeah - and all of my animals end up peeing on him. :P
I also adopt out my breeder females when they've retired, and I always meet the adoptee at my vet clinic, where I pay for a wellness visit before they take them home with them.

He's the Bomb! You know the vet on Emergency Vets that's the exotics vet? With the gray hair and mustache? My vet looks like him and his demeanor is very similar.
He's also been very awesome in sharing my sorrow when I've had to have elderly kitties pts, and awesome in sharing my joy when adding new kitties to our household.

He's pretty cool, but then I also think I might have the most interesting group of pets that he sees too! LOL
Re: Interesting Call I Received
That's awesome Robin! No doubt he's in the right profession! :)
Re: Interesting Call I Received
That's awesome Robin. I've been trying desperately to find a good vet like that around here but even the few that are listed as being reptile vets never really seem to connect with how I really feel about my animals. I've got one more to try though and a couple snakes that need to have floats done so I'll probably go check him out. Kara recommended him so I'm hoping that he's pretty good :D
