Different temps?

Hey everyone :), I have a small problem. I have a helix running my flexwatt and a accurite in the tubs. The accurite is saying its 101.8 the helix is saying its 93, since I have it set at 93. Now what do I do?

Rely on the accurite reading, not the t-stat. There are many reasons why t-stats read a lot lower or higher than the thermometer, and it happens quite often. The T-stat should never be used as a thermometer as well, since the probe should not be inside the cage but directly on the heat source.

Also, if you have one, I would strongly recommend using a temp gun to confirm the actual temperature and base all settings on that. If not, then it would be a good thing to purchase. :)

Thanks for the tip but also the acurite now says its 92.8 in side the tub. and the helix is still at 93.. It should go up and down like this

How long have you been running it? I'm just wondering because on a new setup, the temps will fluctuate a lot until it all settles down. Other than that, I don't know.

I have a follow up question though:

Why should you put the t-stat on the outside? Seems like air would affect the temperature readings and make it hotter. I'm using a UTH though, but have never had any issues with the temp getting too high.

If you put the t-stat probe directly on the heat source it allows the t-stat to maintain a more consistant temperature because it takes away any external changes such as substrate depth, room temp, etc...
