Popping--Hatchlings only?
Hey everyone,
I was just thinking about one of my other posts about my potential breeding project, and was given a good suggestion to check Craigslist for potential adoptions. Is there an age/size "limit" where popping is no longer safe or a good way to check the sex of a bp? I ask in the situation where blah blah blah...this guy has had this male bp up for sale for months and no hits, so....why not just change to female and see what happens. I have not come across this, but I just get a weird vibe about issues like this.
Re: Popping--Hatchlings only?
popping is difficult on adults from what I've heard, but some people still do it. I think it's still safe, just difficult for the human :D
Re: Popping--Hatchlings only?
personally i dont pop adults as it is difficult for me and i dont feel comfertable doing it although some people do. i'd suggest investing in a set of probes at the next show and have the breeder you buy them from show you how to use them. thats what i did and i've never had any problems with people minding if i probed their snakes before buying. Most people are interested in seeing it done
Re: Popping--Hatchlings only?
No age or size limit.
Adults can be more difficult since they have better control so you might need a little practise.
I pop adults and if I really have a doubt I double check by probing.
Re: Popping--Hatchlings only?
I do not know about if there is an age or size limit, but I know I suck at popping adults.
And if I do get a pop, the only thing I can be certain is if I get hemipenes... hemipenes boy, no hemipenes might still be a boy, so I probe.
That is the nice thing about hatchlings. Look at them wrong and they roll over and show their bits to the world.

Re: Popping--Hatchlings only?
I just show them a picture of a nice looking female BP and see if I get any reaction. :P
