Can you teach an old dog new tricks?
I've seen a rash of new puppy posts and I just wondered how many people had OLD puppies they would like to share.

This is Emmy, our 16 (almost 17) year old lab/pit mix. She's a service dog but nowadays, she's earned the right to relax and BE serviced! She's a bit slow these days but still just a pup at heart. Her play is limited to tugging the socks off my feet :D She still loves to go for a ride in the car but really needs help getting in and out of it!

I just lost a really old blue heeler that I got when I was born. She was a great dog. There is nothing better than old dogs!:D

    I'm sorry to hear that.

Personally, I hate puppies. Yeah they are cute and all. But I am a dog person, not a puppy person.

My mom called yesterday and it seems my old lab back home is about to go. She is about 14 now, and eventhough she is old, she still has the drive to hunt. Dad told me that during the last bird season, he would still find her sitting by the door at 4 am waiting on him to take her out to the truck and go down some birds.

He even took her a few times, and held the younger dog back so she could retrieve a few. But only took her out to the blind for duck. She wouldn't have been able to walk far enough to hunt the fields.

She was the kind of dog that would go out into the field when we would be training, and would retrieve work and run until she just couldn't walk anymore. She would run out of energy but never ran out of heart.

I will try to remember to post up a picture of her when I get home tonight.
