im not sure

i have a 0.0.1 bp for about 2months. It is starting to look like VERRRY ASHY/flakey and dried out. i change the water every other day. it finally took down a f/t rat fuzzy. i'm hoping that it will shed any ideas as to the cause/problem/normal?

What is the humidity in your enclosure and how are you monitoring it? Remember that ball pythons like it to be about 50-60% humidity all the time (some people bump up the humidity during the shed cycle).

Lots of people use Acu-Rite thermometer/hygrometer for measuring temps and humidity. These are pretty inexpensive, about $12, and can be found at Lowe's and other places :)

im new to the forum, so im not 100% sure how to get a picture to upload, i m computer functional not a wiz. i've heard a few diff. ppl on here say a possible bad shed, and use the wet pillowcase. i did that, and some of the dry skin started to shed. it is so much more active at night, as im typing this it has been flying around its tank.

Then it is probably shed do what Starmom sugeests with the accurite with outside temp probe from walmart and keep humidity levels up, there is a sticky on how to upload pics :) If I can do it trust me anyone can lol

do you ever mist the cage? i would start by doing that every day, in the mean time you realy need a hydrometer. the correct amount of moisture is VITAL to ball pythons.

this is a picture from my cell phone from 1/13/09. below is a new picture after i soaked "him," got rid of the bad shed and has eaten another f/t.

What I do with a bad shed is to put the ball into a plastic container with about and inch or so mildly warm water, the put the lid on (make sure there are some holes so air can get in) and leave for about half hour.

Normally I find that the stuck shed comes right off thereafter... work a treat... just don't put too much water in, enough to cover up to about 2/3 of the body
