Do lights stress out BPs?

Hello to all,

I'm getting a 36x24x15 Animal Plastics cage that is divided, so one side is 18x24x15. I'm having a white fluorescent light installed, and I was wondering if it may be too bright for the snake and that it might stress him out?

I know people use heat lamps w/o problems, but this fluorescent light might be brighter?

Of course the light would go off at night.

I find Ball pythons prefer lower light. Bright lighting may make him insecure.

When I kept mine in tank with a light they rarely left the hide when the light was on and I always assumed the light bothered their eyes.

Will the light have negative effects on their health or feeding or shedding?

My BP always never comes out during the day, even if the room is very dark.

So when he does come out at night, I don't think it's because the light went out but because it was night.

If you are not using it as a heat source and only for viewing.I would try a red or blue light. That's what we use for viewing our geckos

im no expert... ha i should turn that into my tag line lol .... but im pretty sure since theyre nocturnal that its hard wired into their instincts that light is bad and could me more predators if they venture out ... so aslong as there on a light shedual of atleast 12/12 or better they should be alright with it .... and also the extra UV rays from the fluorescent light couldnt hurt either

How about a black light tube? Does anyone know if snakes can see those types of rays? If not they would provide enough light to see them without bothering them. Plus, it would look pretty cool.

I think I'll leave the light on for 12 hrs a day and I'll turn it off completely when I start seeing signs of discomfort.

I wonder if the black light would make the white patterns on the snake pop like it does a white t-shirts on people?

Animal Plastics offers black lighting I think but I stayed away from it as it'll be a pain when trying to sleep :P
