    rodents inside or outside
i was wondering i have a pretty large porch that is inclosed but with the temps in florida the change rapidly my question is it better to keep mice and rats inside where the temps are more controled or outside on porch where it flexs often i'm worried about it gtting to cold but don't want the smell inside either i can get air conditioner in the summer out there and portable heated during the winter i have them out there now and it got pretty cold out there and they all seem fine but i'm worried about babys and stuff thanks jason

For breeding it is best to keep them in a controlled temp. I keep mine between 64-67 and they do great. I soon will be living in FL also, and have been thinking about trying to keep them outside. I am sure a little flux will be fine but they dont do great in the hot weather.

Inside they need to be kep in the low 70's at the most, the higher the temps the less they will produce.

We dont have central air conditioning here, and the rats are forced to suffer like us when it gets hot in the summer. With temps going into the high 80's and 90's, they literally sleep ALL day. I mist them down with water on especially hot days and keep fans on them.

Short story, rats hate heat, and do not do anything but try to sleep through it.

Our production halted during the hottest summer months, luckily we had the ASF's still going, they really seemed to do very well.

We like to keep the rats between in the 65 - 75 range when ever possible, with the best temps right at 68-72. Like we like. :)
