Adult cage opinions.

Ok so I just completed two ENORMOUS cages for my Sav Monitor and Burmese, and I am about to start on one for my male Ball. He is around 3 1/2 ft long now ,maybe a bit over. What do you guys think a good size would be for him to spend the rest of his days in?

20L i've heard is enough. That's what i've got mine in right now. Vincent is about the same length.

Yeah 20L is fine for awhile but he is in that now and has zero extra room. I am building these cages myself, so I was thinking somewhere in the 3-4ft range for length, 2 ft wide and 18 in. high.
The herpguy name seems to have worked since I have a beautiful fiance, so wooing anyone else wouldnt be in my best interest, but thanks for the advice:)

I was told 20L would work for the entire life.. not sure though, since i've had mine for about a year. Height isn't that important, I think it would just make the humidity control harder. Unless you build a mister.

a 3' x 2' x 12" cage would be a good size, they don't really need much height at all, and would be fine for him for the rest of his life. What are you building the cage out of?

The cage we built for ours is 2'W 4'L and 2'H. Made it out of wood and plexy. Total it came to less than $70.00.

I have read that a cage should be no smaller than half their body length wide, no less than 3/4 their body lenth long, and for height, no less than four times thicker than the widest part of the snakes body. But that is just what I read.

I also read that a cage that is too big can overwhelm them, and make them insecure. But I am new to this so I am still forming an opinion on things.

outta curriousisty what kinda wood ?? hardwood or just ply wood ??

A mix. The back and bottom are press board (though the bottom is waterproofed with thick heat resistant plastic under the substrate), the top is plywood, and the frame is hardwood.

I've often been told the 3' long RBI cages are big enough for just about even the largest female balls out there, just passing along what I've read :D

I am building it out of 1/4 laminant pressboard with tileboard on top of that, with carpet on top of that for the bottom. The sides and top will be the laminant pressboard witht the laminant side on the inside of the cage then seal everything to waterproof and such. I will also incorporate a piece of plexiglass on one side of the bottom so I can use an UTH. I done this for the Burmese cage and it wasnt all that hard to do. I then frame a door with a plexiglass front. I will post a picture later this afternoon of the double stacked monsters I built last weekend. This one was done with about the materials except it was framed with 2x4s to supports the weight of the snake it will be housing. It is quite heavy! I am thinking no more that 4ft in length, probably leaning towards 3ft-3 1/2though since a large enclosure can stress them out, and there is really no need to have a large enclosure for these guys. So, 3x2x12' sound good?
