"false locks"?

How many times do you think you have a lock but there really is'nt? I thought my male Albino has been locking up but pulled tails apart today because I thought they were locking too long,sure enough no insertion penes were not out & in:mad:.

Last year my yellowbelly male 'locked' with a female many multiple times. On the first timers I will generally slightly lift the females tail to make sure he is actually locked in or not. There was only one confirmed lock that whole season with him.

Be carefull you dont hurt the male if they are locked up ;).He might have been taking a "break" when you looked at them.

also "false locks" are also call courting it means their both in the mood but ones got a commitment issue. :D

I just got some locks today! i have one okay pair, and one HARDCORE pair! the "hardcore" pair has been locked up since early this morning (3:00 a.m.) until now (10:30 p.m.). I wanted to see if they were actually locked up so i lifted my females tail just slightly, and saw hemipenes in her!!! I cant beleive they were actually locked up for soo long!:D

I'd suggest NEVER touching 2 snakes that look like they may be breeding...they're never locked for "too long". If they look like they're breeding leave them be. If he had been inserted just a slight jerk or movement can seriously hurt your males hemipene (even cause him to no longer be able to breed) false lock or real lock....as long as they seem to be doing it you should expect they are....I've got a few girls gravid from a hypo male right now that I've never seen him touch a female tail to tail but their follicles are already bigger than any of my other girls which is a big surprise to me but I can't complain!

It might be that they were just finishing up when you checked. It's all about the courtship.
