How can I euth a fuzzy?
Hi everybody. I had my Fiance pick up a pinky for my Children's Python and they gave him a big fat crawler. It's too big for my little girl, so how can I euthanize him? Thank you. Jami

Dunno how many will answer you here, but you could put dry ice in a cooler, then put the rat in a little container, and close the lid. Will fall asleep and die.

Where can a person get dry ice? I was wondering if I could gas him with propane? I mean, it will put a human to sleep, should work on a baby mouse, right? Would it be safe for the snake if I used propane/natural gas? Thanks for any help.

Can't you just give him back to the store?

Well, I could, but he bought him up North 45 minutes away. I thought I would just euth him and freeze him for later rather than drive 45 minutes one way to return him.

you could use vinegar and baking soda, I'm pretty sure that creates CO2, I'm sure there are plenty of gasses that will deliver a kill, but you might have trouble executing the kill depending on the properties of the gas, (such as helium and maybe propane?), if it is lighter than air, or more dense than air. If it is less dense than air you'll have to make sure your gas is not escaping through the top.

Edit: Since fuzzies are resistant to euthanasia by CO2, you'd have to know what you're doing. I don't know how it's done, I have never done it.

BTW some dip their newborn to 3 week old mice in water, fuzzies fall in that category, and freeze them. But this is not an accepted means of euthanasia by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Co2 will not work on small rodents, dry ice can burn skin. Dipping into water is cruel if you ask me and quite unnecessary. Simply put it in a small bag and put it in the freezer 30-45mins later job done.

Well it's doesn't seem to be much different.. Dip it in water, it freezes and dies, probably quicker then if it was dry..

That would be the only away unless you want to do it yourself:

For me the below would be the fastest, just not sure how small it is.

Cervical dislocation, dislocation of the neck, is a simple and humane method of killing mice and small rats (<125 gms). Although not required, the use of sedation or anesthesia prior to euthanasia is encouraged. If sedation or anesthesia prior to cervical dislocation is not used the investigator must provide scientific justification for its exclusion. In the case of mice and small rats, the animal is held by its tail and placed on a surface that it can grip, then it will stretch itself out so that a pencil or similar object can be placed firmly across the back of the neck. A sharp pull on the base of the tail will then dislocate the neck.

The point I was trying to make is freezing can be viewed as inhumane, regardless of wet or dry. Some may disagree, I'm not going to argue, I just have my beliefs.
