My driftwood is getting mold on it--What Do I Do?
This is my first post since finding this AMAZING site, so bear with me I'm new to this...My situation is that I bought a GREAT piece of driftwood that I love and my BP loves, at least I think he does, he seems to either be laying on it or rubbing on it all the time, and I just noticed yesterday while taking my daily temp measurements that it had started to get some mold on the ends of it. So I took it out and baked it and scrubbed it with hot water and it seems to be good as new, but I'm wondering if this will continue to happen?...and if this continues what can I do to keep my humidity up and still give my Ball a place to climb?....Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My suggestion is that if it keeps coming back either
1) Buy BioShield from Pro-Products, as they say it'll continue cleaning and getting rid of stuff like mold for three months, and PP is a very trustworthy company or
2) Get a new piece

That is one of the reasons most people stop using driftwood in BP tanks at all. If the mold doesn't come off, you have to replace the wood.
What substrate do you use? It shouldn't be so moist as to cause mold to develop... the key is to get the air humidity up to 50%...not the ground. :) Substrate should never have noticeable moisture in it.

Yeah, I use Aspen for now but I am thinking about switching to something that handles moisture better. I have my humidity at 80% right now because my ball is in shed, and I think that is why the mold is happening.....Is it normal for the tank to get condensation on the walls when you have the humidity up at 80%?

Yeah especially after you've just sprayed. What kind of cage are you using?
Well just keep scrubbing it off and if you really don't want to get rid of the wood go buy some BioShield.
